Leeds United footballers Mr Michael Duberry and Mr Jonathan Woodgate have been cleared of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by a jury at Hull Crown Court.

Mr Woodgate's friends Mr Paul Clifford and Mr Neale Caveney were also cleared of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The jury was then sent home. It will resume considering the other charges of grievous bodily harm and affray tomorrow.

Mr Woodgate (21), team-mate Mr Lee Bowyer (24), Mr Clifford (21), and Mr Caveney (21) deny causing grievous bodily harm to 20-year-old student Mr Sarfraz Najeib in a street attack in Leeds in January last year.

They also plead not guilty to affray.

Mr Bowyer was not charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The verdict means Mr Duberry (25) faces no further charges in this trial.

The verdicts were returned after a second day of deliberating by the jury.
