London - Legal argument is expected to delay for up to two weeks the retrial of two Leeds United footballers and two other men accused of assaulting a student, it emerged yesterday, Rachel Donnelly reports. The England midfielder, Lee Bowyer, and his Leeds United colleague, Jonathan Woodgate, deny causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Sarfraz Najeib in Leeds city centre in January last year and affray.

Counsel for both sides will present legal argument before the prosecution opens its case at Hull Crown Court. The original trial, which cost £8 million, collapsed in April after a potentially prejudicial article in the Sunday Mirror.
