Leading racehorse owner Robert Sangster has died aged 67 after a long battle with cancer.

Leading racehorse owner Robert Sangster has died aged 67 after a long battle with cancer.

Sangster dominated the British racing scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and enjoyed phenomenal success on the international stage.

His famous triumphs included two Epsom Derbies with The Minstrel in 1977 and Golden Fleece in 1982, both trained by Ireland's Vincent O'Brien, with Assert and Caerleon landing the French equivalent in 1982 and 1983.

The famous green, blue and white colours won more than 100 group/grade one races for Merseyside-born Sangster, who owned winners of the Breeders' Cup Mile in America and Melbourne Cup in Australia.
