Aston Villa midfielder Oyvind Leonhardsen has stated he is keen to find out if he figures in new boss David O'Leary's future plans before penning a new one-year deal at Villa Park.

O'Leary has stressed that every player currently on the Villa books will be given a fresh chance to prove themselves as he bids to turn around the club's flagging fortunes.

But Leonhardsen, who is a current Norway international, wants assurances that he will get regular first-team action.

The veteran midfielder has a fortnight in which to give the Villa board his final decision on the offer made to him at the end of the season, but is keen to hold out for confirmation over his future from O'Leary.

"I should maybe ask them to set the deadline to midnight at June 7th," Leonhardsen told the club's official website.

"Aston Villa have just changed manager so I would like to know if David O'Leary wants me before I eventually say yes to the contract."
