Though told that his DNA had been found on postage stamps attached to a letter-bomb, a Belfast man refused to give any explanation to police, Belfast Crown Court was told yesterday.
Lord Justice Campbell was told that during numerous interviews in November 1997, Mr Sean Martin Green (35) refused to answer questions. Mr Green from Stockman's Lane, Belfast, and Mr Gearoid Maguaid (35) of Springfield Road, Belfast, deny two conspiracy charges involving a total of 37 incidents between December 1996 and November 1997. These included the sending of 16 threatening letters to DHSS managers, Belfast city councillors and unionist MPs, the posting of 11 hoax letter-bombs and 10 improvised incendiary devices.
Mr Green faces a further charge of threatening to kill Mr Stephen King in a letter sent to him at Queen's University, Belfast, in October 1997. Evidence continues on Tuesday.
