The clean-up operation on the Liffey following a major oil spill has been a success, according to Dublin Corporation.

Yesterday, 20,000 litres of light fuel oil spilled into the river following a collision between an oil-tanker and a lorry on the N4 near Palmerstown.
Dublin Corporation city engineer, Mr Michael Philips, said the operation to contain the oil-spill had been "100 per cent successful".
Four booms were placed along the river yesterday to prevent the oil spreading and swans and ducks were removed by the Dublin Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals.
Mr Phillips said, only a dozen or so ducks were affected and there were no signs of a major fish-kill. He said Dublin Corporation were prepared for the incident and "were able to respond very rapidly and had all the equipment there in fifteen minutes."
