Community events dominated the Limerick St Patrick's Day parade yesterday, which was watched by more than 20,000 people. The overall winners were St Mary's Street Pageant depicting the Abbey River fishermen's fight for fishing rights.
The most entertaining entry was the Samhlu street theatre, Foynes, Co Limerick. They presented an anti city boundary expansion tableau. The gardai won the special Charter 800 prize with a colourful parade of uniforms and artefacts used since the foundation of the Garda Siochana.
