A 19-year-old Limerick man has been banned from entering one of the city's biggest suburbs by a District Court judge.
Paul Franklin, Meagher Close, Hyde Road, Limerick, was ordered to stay out of the Gouldavoher/Raheen area of Limerick city after being convicted of committing two separate public order offences.
The teenager was arrested by Garda Michael Byrne on January 31st last.
Garda Byrne told Limerick District Court yesterday the accused was found drunk and disorderly in a lane-way in Gouldavoher at 11.45 p.m. on January 31st last and was subsequently arrested.
The court head that there is an increasing problem with anti-social behaviour in the Gouldavoher area caused by youths not from the locality drinking and hanging around laneways.
Judge Tom O'Donnell fined Franklin €250 and imposed an exclusion order for six months, ordering him to stay out of the Gouldavoher area for that period.
Judge O'Donnell warned Franklin that if he was found in breach of the order he would be arrested by gardaí and brought back to court, where he could face a jail term.
Solicitor for the accused, Mr Ted McCarthy, said his client would adhere to any conditions imposed by the court and that his father - who was present in court - would ensure that he stayed away from the area.
The court heard that Franklin had a number of previous convictions for public order offences.
Yesterday he was also convicted of a separate public order offence committed in the Hyde Road area of Limerick on February 6th last.
Judge O'Donnell imposed 200 hours of community service, saying the accused "could do something positive for his community rather than engage in negative behaviour".
