Vilnius - The Lithuanian Prime Minister, Mr Rolandas Paksas, resigned yesterday, clearing the way for his centrist coalition to resolve its differences and remain in power.
The Minister for the Economy, Mr Eugenijus Gentvilas, was appointed caretaker Prime Minister.
Mr Paksas, head of the Liberal Union party, had been left with no alternative after a key centre-left ally in his four-party coalition withdrew its support for him on Monday.
