FUEL PRICES have fallen sharply after weeks of plummeting international oil prices.
The price of a litre of petrol in many stations has now dipped to near the €1 barrier, and it would have fallen further had it not been for an 8 cent tax increase in last month's Budget.
According to the latest monthly survey by the AA, a litre of petrol fell by 18 cent (or 10 cent, when the Budget increase is allowed for) and now costs 113 cent on average.
Diesel, which was not affected by the Budget tax increases, fell back in price by over 15 cent in the past month, and now costs an average of 113.7 cent per litre.
Pumps.ie, which monitors fuel prices around the country, reports filling stations in Waterford, Cork and Sligo selling petrol for as low as 103.9 cent. The Top garage on Dublin's Usher's Quay is now selling petrol at 105.9 cent.
