'Little respite' from high funding costs

Irish lenders see "little respite” from higher funding costs in the near term, Davy said this morning.

Irish lenders see "little respite” from higher funding costs in the near term, Davy said this morning.

"The impact of negative sentiment towards the sovereign has prevented public debt issue by an Irish bank since April 2010," Davy said in a note today.

"Yet lenders are coping with their September maturities thanks to pre-funding earlier in the year and amply qualifying liquidity assets."

However, the note said the EU restructuring approval process may address the "dysfunctional" deposit market.

Davy also said AIB hopes to have further new on asset sales by the end of September.
