The Neff brothers, who are billed as two of the most talented Irish traditional musicians in the State, perform on uilleann pipes and fiddle in Eldon's Hotel, Roundstone, Co Galway, tonight as part of the fifth Roundstone Arts Week which kicked off at the weekend.
This year, the theme is youth and the environment, and the marine environment is the subject of a talk by Padraic de Bhaldraithe on the book he translated by Seamas Mac an Iomaire, entitled The Shores of Connemara.
Tribal drumming, a treasure hunt and a reading with the novelist Jennifer Johnston are on tomorrow's programme. The 30th anniversary of the death of landscape painter Gerard Dillon will be marked on Wednesday with a day on Innishlaken island.
Readings, music and lectures continue throughout the week, with a slide show on the history of the training ship, Asgard by Tim Magennis on Friday evening in the Roundstone House Hotel, a walk with Gordon D'Arcy, wildlife author and environmentalist, on Saturday, and a reading on Sunday with Katie Donovan of The Irish Times, accompanied by cellist Stephan Sensbach.
