Freddie Ljungberg is doubtful for Arsenal's Premiership opener against Everton after hurting his shoulder in his side's Community Shield defeat by Manchester United.

The Swedish international midfielder was replaced in the second half shortly after falling on his shoulder following a tackle by United defender Quinton Fortune in a game won by United 4-3 on penalties after it ended 1-1.

"Things don't look great now, we'll see how it develops," Ljungberg was quoted as saying. "(Arsenal's doctors) can't promise anything."

But an Arsenal spokeswoman said the midfielder was "by no means ruled out" for the Everton match.

Meanwhile, Everton skipper Kevin Campbell has been ruled out for the first month of the season with a hamstring injury.

The big forward limped off after just 10 minutes of the 3-0 win over Bologna yesterday and, after a scan this morning, Everton's worst fears were realised.

It plunges boss David Moyes into a striker crisis, with Duncan Ferguson banned for the first three games of the season and Wayne Rooney struggling to overcome an ankle ligament problem that has ruled him out of the last four pre-season friendlies.

But Moyes says: "Wayne has a good chance of making it, but he's not kicked a ball for a while and won't be doing so until the back end of the week. It's touch and go but we believe he has a chance."

Everton have completed the signing on a two-year contract of 17 year-old Lazio forward Patrizio Pascucci, but he will not be considered for Saturday's trip to Arsenal where Moyes will probably have to play Nick Chadwick alongside Tomasz Radzinski.
