A lobby group opposing the EU Reform Treaty agreed in Lisbon today has argued that the new document is the same as the one already voted down in referendums in France and the Netherlands.
The Campaign Against the EU Constitution claimed the treaty take Europe in the direction of "greater social inequality and increased militarisation".
In a statement, the group said the agreement would create greater inequality in healthcare and would result in increased militarisation of the European Union.
"The 'Reform' Constitution commits the unaccountable European Central Bank to maintain price stability and control inflation - not reduce unemployment and poverty, East-West inequality or child poverty," the group said.
"Governments would be punished for too much public spending; but leaving children go hungry and sick has no sanction. Elected governments would be tied in the future to the Thatcherite economic policy of the ECB.
"The 'Reform' Constitution - despite the lofty aspirations in the Charter of Fundamental Rights - would set in stone the policies that cause inequality."
The organisation said it would campaign for a 'No' vote in the proposed referendum here. It has also invited a leader of the French 'No' campaign to speak at a public meeting in Dublin next month.
