A court in Britain has quashed the verdicts convictions against nine men charged with the hi-jack of an Afghan airplane at Stansted Airport over three years ago.
The plane was en route from Kabul to Stansted when the nine Afhanis hijacked it claiming to be escaping a Taliban death squad.
The nine men had claimed political asylum in Britain.
The Court of Appeal today quashed the verdicts handed down to Brothers Ali and Mohammed Safi - who led the hijack and were jailed for five years - and seven others, jailed for between 27 and 30 months.
The brothers were the only men still in jail and are expected to be freed within a few days once their asylum applications have been processed.
Meanwhile, the trial of 23 alleged al Qaeda members has begun in Belgium.
Among the charges is the murder of Afghan opposition leader, Mr Ahmad Shah Massoud, and planning attacks on American targets in Europe.
