Longford Town 1-0 Waterford United
26/04/01: Longford Town ensured that they would be the side to take on Bohs in this year's FAI Cup Final after a one nil victory over Waterford at Flancare Park this evening.
After a relatively quiet first half in which Waterford had the better of the few opportunities the sides went to the dressing room all square.
The breakthrough eventually came 15 minutes from the end, for Longford to secure their first ever appearance in the FAI Cup final, after Shay Zellor latched onto a through ball.Chased by Brendan Ray and faced by keeper Anthony Fennelly,Zellor endeavoured to give Longford the lead before the whistle blew for a questionable penalty, Longford’s second in five days.
Ray was adjudged by referee Paul McKeown to have handled the ball and a cruel exit was on the cards for Waterford United.Stephen Kelly mad sure of the spot kick, roofing the ball well out of Fennelly’s reach.
Longford have lost twice to Bohemians this season, conceding seven goals in total, but they will be all to aware of the possibilites on Cup final day come May 13th.
