An elderly woman and her daughter who died in a crash in Co Longford yesterday have been named.
Florence Breen of Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, who was in her 80s, and daughter Ann Marie Doran (60) from Coolarty, Co Longford, were killed in a two-car crash in north Co Longford yesterday afternoon.
Another two people were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, with serious injuries. One of those hospitalised is believed to be in a critical condition.
The two-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 2pm at Purth Cross, Dring, on the road between Granard and Aughnacliffe. The women who died were travelling as passengers in one of the cars involved.
Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to remove the dead women from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, gardaí said today that a total of 348 drink driving incidents were recorded compared to 301 the previous week.
