Ardagh Heritage Village :
Has received numerous accolades including the National Tidy Towns Award in 1989 and 1996. Recently enhanced with the opening of a new heritage centre and public park, containing 35 species of native broadleaf trees. A craft shop and a cafe are attached to the centre.
Corlea Trackway Exhibition Centre :
Opened in 1994, the centre, located near Kenagh, contains the remains of ancient bog roads and tells their story through displays.
Longford town :
Visited for shopping rather than its historical attractions: St Mel's Cathedral, the Diocesan College and Long- ford Museum.
Ballinamuck :
Monuments marking its role in the 1798 Rebel- lion can be found in the town and at the battlefield on Shanmullagh Hill.
Ballymahon/Lanesborough :
Two prime fishing locations, the former on the River Inny, the latter at the northern entrance to Lough Ree.
Goldsmith Country :
A plaster mould of the Foley statue at Trinity College, Dublin marks Goldsmith's home in Pallas, now a ruin.
Carrigglas Manor :
Seat of the Lefroy family since 1810. Guided tours available June to September.
Newtowncashel :
Award-winning town, contains Cashel Heritage Centre tracing history of rural life in the area. The town is also home to international bog-oak artist Michael Casey.
