A tall ship designed with the needs of people with disabilities in mind sails into Cork harbour today on its first official visit to the city.
The Lord Nelsonis visiting Ireland with the aim of raising awareness of the Jubilee Sailing Trust project and to encourage Irish people with and without disabilities to participate in their personal development programmes.
The Trust offers adventure sailing holidays for able-bodied and disabled people. Its aim is to promote the integration of able-bodied and physically disabled people through sailing adventure holidays and associated activities.
Since the Lord Nelsonwas built in 1986, she has taken over 19,000 people to sea, including over 7,500 people with disabilities.
The ship will be open to the public tomorrow afternoon and on Sunday. Admission is free but visitors are encouraged to make a donation to help fund Irish people with disabilities to take part in the training courses on both the Lord Nelsonand sister ship the Tenacious.
On Wednesday, the Lord Nelsonwill take nine people from the Doorway to Life project and three helpers on a voyage from Cork to Liverpool.
