A lorry driver has been arrested after a road accident in which a woman was killed and a man left fighting for his life.

Police are today preparing to question the driver about the horrific collision on the main Ballymena to Ballycastle Road near Ballymoney in Co Antrim last night.

36-year-old Mary McMullan of Whitehall View in Ballycastle was a front seat passenger in a Honda car which was in collision with the lorry on the Drones Road near its junction with the Knockhallet road at about 8.45pm.

Her husband, who was driving the car, was taken to hospital where his condition remains critical.The latest death brings the number of people killed on the province's roads since the beginning of the year to 19.

A police sergeant at the scene confirmed the lorry driver had been arrested and was helping police with their inquiries.
