What about this for a comeback? Loudest Whisper, a folk rock group which will command a place in the lexicon of Ireland's music history, was formed in 1969 by Brian O'Reilly, of Fermoy, Co Cork.

O'Reilly is a singer/songwriter of some distinction. As a solo performer, he won Irish song contests in Castlebar and Chareleville, as well as a Greek song contest in Salonika. He has worked with stars such as Donovan, Philip Donnelly and US country legend John Prine.

From a six-piece line-up, Loudest Whisper is now a tighter three-piece unit. At one stage, it seemed as if the band would not survive, as its founder was involved in too many other projects. However, last year, the band became a family affair when Brian's son, Oran, who was not even born when the original line-up was put together, and his brother, Paud, decided to make a fresh start.

Loudest Whisper will live on and there will be a new album - with a rockier sound - in the shops for the autumn and Christmas markets. The band has also lined up concerts in Ireland, the US, England, France and Germany.
