A loyalist parade held in Newtownards, Co Down, yesterday in support of the Dunloy Orangemen's right to march passed off peacefully. About 200 people and several bands took part.
Organised by the North Down and Ards Orange Support Movement, it is expected to be the first of a series of similar demonstrations across the North.
A spokesman said: "This is a parade which will give support for the right of the Orange brethren to maintain their right to have a church service and to go to their place of worship and give thanks to God, which is what our organisation is all about."
Meanwhile the protests at Harryville, in Ballymena, Co Antrim, continued on Saturday night, but peacefully. Loyalists have been picketing outside Our Lady's Catholic Church for 28 weeks because of the refusal to let Orangemen parade through the mainly Catholic village of Dunloy, Co Antrim.
