Police in Derry have blamed loyalist paramilitaries for an overnight gun attack on a house in the city.
A woman and her seven-year-old daughter were in the house on Bonds Street at the time of the attack.
Police are treating the attack as attempted murder. A police spokesman four shots were fired at the front of the house at around 10.45 p.m.
The woman was in the livingroom of the house while the girl was upstairs in bed. No one was injured but the woman was badly shocked and shaken by the incident.
According to sources, she moved into the area a few months ago from Belfast. A number of items have been taken away for forensic examination and police said they were still investigating a motive for the shooting.
A police inspector investigating the incident said he believed it was paramilitary related. "We are treating it as attempted murder," he added.
