Our Commissioner, Pee Flynn, normally hosts a splendid party in Brussels each St Patrick's Day, with Jameson and Baileys and Guinness and shamrock. The invitations were already out for next Tuesday when the Commission decided that 5 p.m. on March 17th was the time for the all-important crunch meeting to decide the future allocation of structural and CAP funds. Pee consequently has to reschedule his party. His one consolation is that he expects all his fellow commissioners, as they sit down to decide Ireland's fate in the Breydel Building, to be wearing shamrock. He intends presenting it to them himself.
