A CONVICTED drug dealer was targeted in a gun attack in Dublin at lunchtime yesterday

A CONVICTED drug dealer was targeted in a gun attack in Dublin at lunchtime yesterday. The man’s car was hit a number of times, but he managed to speed away from his attackers and avoided injury.

The incident occurred on Hampton Wood Road in the Hampton Wood estate, Finglas, at about 12.30pm.

The man was driving his car near his home in the area when the occupant of a vehicle that passed him on the road opened fire with a pistol. The target’s car was hit a number of times, but he escaped from his attackers.

The car used by the gunman and his associate was found burnt out in Ballymun a short time later.

The victim is well known to gardaí for his involvement in the drugs trade. He was arrested by gardaí two years ago as part of an investigation into the planning of a gun attack on leading Finglas criminal Martin “Marlo” Hyland.

Hyland was shot dead a number of weeks later by members of his own drugs gang.

That attack also claimed the life of apprentice plumber Anthony Campbell (20), who was working in the house in Scribblestown Park, Finglas, where Hyland was staying when the gunmen called.

The man targeted yesterday has been convicted of drug-dealing a number of times.

When released from prison he resumed his drug-dealing activities and clashed with a number of other drug dealers.

He was before the courts recently when a sum of money was seized from him.
