The appeal of a former Blackrock College pupil, convicted in connection with the death of Brian Murphy outside Dublin's Club Anabael in 2000, has been adjourned today.

Seán Mackey of South Park, Foxrock, was sentenced to two years in prison for violent disorder, relating to the fracas which led to Mr Murphy's death.

Last April, Dermot Laide of Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was convicted of the manslaughter of Mr Murphy. The jury failed to agree on a similar charge against Mackey.

While not appealing his conviction, Mackey is appealing against the sentence at the Court of Criminal Appeal.

In the court today, the case was adjoured after Mackey's legal team expressed concerns at recent media reports on the case and their proximity to today's hearing.

The appeal is now expected to be heard in October.

Appeals are also being taken by Laide and Desmond Ryan of Cunningham Road, Dalkey, who received a nine-month sentence for violent disorder.
