The main points of the £2.5 billion Dublin Transportation blueprint include the following recommendations for investment:
£165 million spending on bus services resulting in a 28 per cent addition to fleet numbers and 22,000 additional seats
£416 million plus £12 million planning costs for Luas not counting the underground option
£185 million for new suburban rail cars, signalling improvements and capacity enhancements
£52 million for integration of bus and rail journeys
£1,475 million for improvements in national and non-national roads in the DTO area
£13 million to £38 million for cycle lanes and facilities.
£300,000 for demand management studies and £1 million for public information.
The DTO study advocates better road and rail links between Dublin city and the surrounding counties of Meath, Kildare and Wicklow. It emphasises the importance of building development around transport lines, so the outlying towns do not become mere "dormitory" towns for Dublin.
