Three Dublin hotels which had their Failte Ireland classification downgraded earlier this year have had their five star status restored on appeal.
But the Shelbourne Hotel on St Stephens Green which was also downgraded has opted to stay unclassified pending the completion of renovations.
An independent board upheld the appeals by three Dublin hotels - The Conrad, Jury's Ballsbridge and the Radisson St Helen's. They were allowed retain their five-star status pending the appeal and this classification will now continue.
In July this year, the four hotels were downgraded to four star establishments by Excellence in Tourism acting on behalf of Failte Ireland and the Irish Hotels' Federation.
The appeals board was chaired by Mr Finbarr Flood, former chair of the Labour Court.
The grading scheme which is voluntary is currently under review and a new scheme will be launched in 2005.
