Blantyre - Malawi's President Bakili Muluzi has won re-election for a second and final five-year term, the electoral commission announced yesterday.
Mr Muluzi took 51.37 per cent of the ballots cast on Tuesday, while Mr Gwanda Chakuamba, joint candidate for an opposition alliance, won 44.3 per cent. In parliamentary elections which ran concurrently with the presidential poll, Mr Muluzi's United Democratic Front (UDF) took 93 of the 192 seats contested.
