A 26-year-old man died today after being struck by a car in Co Mayo.

A 26-year-old man died today after being struck by a car in Co Mayo.

Gardai at Castlebar are investigating the incident which happened at Moat, Balla in the county at 1.40am.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A driver in his 40s died on the Nephin Road in Dublin's Cabra yesterday after his car collided with another car travelling in the opposite direction and then struck two parked vehicles.

Meanwhile, Gardai at Dungarvan, Co Waterford, are investigating the death of a 38-year-old man who died when the motorcycle he was driving was in collision with another motorcycle around midday yesterday. It is believed the two motorcyclists were involved in escorting a charity fun run which was taking place in the area.

Gardai have named the man who became the 200th person to be killed on the Republic's roads in the first six months of the year.

Michael Kenny, 19, from Spafield Crescent, Cashel in Co Tipperary died around 5.30am on Friday after the car he was driving collided with a wall at Thurles in the county. Officers are also investigating two fatal crashes in Dublin and Co Waterford which occurred on Saturday, July 1st.
