CALLING for a debate on the detention of Irish people in British jails, Mr Sean Maloney (Lab) said Mr Michael Howard was probably the most cruel British Home Secretary for many years. Mr Maloney, who was a member of the Labour group who visited Ms Roisin McAliskey in London's Holloway Prison last week, said a lot of Irish people were being held on extremely flimsy evidence at the whim of Mr Howard.
It would be appropriate to have a debate on this issue around Easter, which was a historic time", for us. Prisoners had played a major role in relation to the peace process. "They feel, at the moment, they're being forgotten about."
