A MAN has been charged with the murder of Michaela Davis (12) and has been remanded in custody until Friday.
Jonathan Byrne (18), Lohunda Downs, Clonsilla, Dublin, appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday morning charged with the murder at Porterstown Road on Saturday last.
Det Sgt Daniel Callaghan recounted to Dublin District Court the details of Mr Byrne’s arrest and charge.
Mr Byrne was arrested at Blanchardsown Garda station at 11.30pm on Sunday night.
He was charged by Sgt Joe Delaney shortly afterwards in the presence of Det Sgt Callaghan.
Mr Byrne made no reply when he was charged and he was handed a copy of the charge by gardaí, Det Sgt Callaghan told the court.
Eugene Dunne, defending, applied to the court for free legal aid on behalf of Mr Byrne. This was granted by Judge Patrick Clyde.
Mr Dunne also requested Judge Clyne to direct medical attention to Mr Byrne. This was also granted by the judge.
The hearing took place in court four of the Criminal Courts Complex in Dublin.
The courtroom was almost full during the hearing at about 11.10am, which lasted about five minutes. About a dozen members of the media sat in the court.
Mr Byrne had a short haircut and was wearing a grey coloured hooded top with a CS55 logo. He was dressed in blue jeans and white trainers.
He did not speak during the brief hearing.
As Mr Byrne was led out of the court by prison officers, he waved towards someone in the public gallery.
Judge Clyne remanded him in custody at Cloverhill Prison.
Mr Byrne will appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday morning.
