Man (81) dies after being struck by van

AN 81-YEAR-OLD pedestrian was killed on Saturday night after he was struck by a van at Creggs Road in Glenamaddy, Co Galway.

AN 81-YEAR-OLD pedestrian was killed on Saturday night after he was struck by a van at Creggs Road in Glenamaddy, Co Galway.

The crash happened at about 9.50pm and the dead man was named locally as Martin Brennan, a widower, from Boyounagh, Glenamaddy.

Gardaí in Tuam have appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman who was seriously injured when the car she was driving collided with the back of a parked lorry in Salthill, Galway, on Friday afternoon died from her injuries at Galway's University College Hospital on Saturday morning.

In Co Clare, four people were injured, one seriously, after the two vehicles in which they were travelling collided with wandering cattle which had strayed onto a busy dual carriageway in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardaí in Shannon are investigating the circumstances of the crash on the Ennis to Limerick dual carriageway at Ballymorris near Bunratty.

And in a separate incident, a married man in his 30s died in an accident in Virginia, Co Cavan, on Saturday when a van he was working on reversed over him.

He was named locally as David Lynch, a father of four young children.

He had been repairing the vehicle at his home when it reversed over him, causing fatal injuries.
