An 86-year-old Co Limerick man received head injuries when he was attacked by two intruders in his home at the weekend.
The men entered the house at Grange, Ballyneety, shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday morning and took a sum of money and a shotgun. Gardai suspect that this attack may have been carried out by the same intruders who assaulted a 71-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife recently in their home on the Ballysimon Road in Limerick.
Meanwhile, gardai are also investigating an alleged assault on a woman in her home at Ballynanty, Limerick, on Saturday night. The woman has claimed that two men wearing balaclavas entered her home on Shanabooley Road shortly after midnight on Saturday night and attacked her with a hammer. Her husband and children were in the house at the time but were not injured in the assault.
The woman, who is in her late 30s, was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital.
