Man accused in sister's death refused bail

A man (25) charged with the manslaughter of his sister was today refused bail in Tralee District Court.

A man (25) charged with the manslaughter of his sister was today refused bail in Tralee District Court.

Robert O'Brien of Bay 3, Halting Site, Dingle Road, Tralee, is accused of the manslaughter of Ms Elizabeth McCarthy (30) at The Quay, Blennerville, on September 28th.

Mr O'Brien was arrested on Monday and charge at Kenmare District Court.  Another man arrested with him was released without charge.

Ms McCarthy, a married mother of three from Castleisland, was found fully clothed in a tidal stream in an area known as Kearney's Bridge last Wednesday.

Ms McCarthy had attended a relative's wedding at the Earl of Desmond Hotel in the town last Monday, September 27th, about five miles from where her body was discovered.

She was reported missing on Tuesday, and her body was noticed by a passer-by walking his dog shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Ms McCarthy, who was formerly from Castleisland, is survived by her husband, Patrick; three boys, aged eight, six and two; and her parents.
