A man charged with killing an elderly woman by setting fire to her house in Inishbofin last summer was further charged in Galway District Court yesterday with killing the dead woman's two sisters, who also died in the blaze. Mr Alan Murphy (25), from Co Down, with an address in Drumcondra, Co Dublin, was charged shortly after the incident with the unlawful killing of Ms Eileen Coyne (82), of Middle Quarter, Inishbofin, and with setting fire to her house.

At yesterday's court he was further charged with the unlawful killing of her sisters, Ms Bridget McFadden and Ms Margaret Concannon. Mr Murphy had nothing to say in relation to both charges.

He was granted bail in the High Court last July, on his own surety of £5,000 and one independent surety of £20,000 cash, on condition that he surrendered his passport and reported three times a week to a Garda station. He was remanded on continuing bail by Judge John Garavan to appear again on March 1st.
