Two people have been arrested today in connection with the investigation into the gang-related murder of a 26-year-old man two years ago.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her late 30s are being questioned at Sundrive Road Station in Crumlin as part of the inquiry into the killing of Mr Derek Lodge on May 22nd.
Mr Lodge was known to the gardai as a petty criminal who detectives believe had recently begun associating with a major drug gang in the Crumlin area.
"Lodge's recent nocturnal habits indicate that he had become involved with professional criminals and obviously got out of his league. We now realise that he was in a lot deeper than we had previously known," the Sunday Independentreported a senior officer shortly after shooting saying.
The father-of-one was working outside his parents' house on Kilworth Road in Drimnagh when a man shot him twice at close range with a sawn-off shotgun.
"It appeared to have been very professionally carried out. It did not look like somebody gaining revenge for Lodge's anti-social activities in the area," the officer added.
