A MAN has appeared before the courts charged with the shooting dead of a Dubliner last weekend.
Liam Bolger (22), Homelawn Gardens, Tallaght, Dublin, appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday. He was charged with the murder of Chris Barry at Killester Avenue, Killester, Dublin, last Saturday afternoon.
Mr Barry, a 24-year-old father of one from Middle Third, Killester, was shot by a lone gunman at Byrne’s Bookies just before 3pm. A gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet followed Mr Barry into the bookie’s and discharged up to 11 shots from a handgun. The victim was hit several times in the head and body.
The gunman fled on a motorcycle found burnt-out a short time later at La Vista Avenue, close to the murder scene.
Later on Saturday evening, two men were arrested in Tallaght. The men, one of whom was Mr Bolger, were questioned at Raheny and Clontarf Garda stations. A van was also confiscated for technical analysis.
Mr Bolger was released from custody on Tuesday evening and immediately rearrested at Raheny Garda station, where the murder charge was then put to him. He was detained overnight ahead of his appearance before court yesterday.
Free legal aid was granted to Mr Bolger. Judge Cormac Dunne remanded the accused in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.
The second man arrested for questioning about Mr Barry’s murder was released from Garda custody without charge.
A file on him is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
