A man appeared at a special sitting of Killarney District Court yesterday in connection with an assault on a woman in her home in Tralee on Friday night.

Jason Murphy (34) Shanakill, Tralee, was charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act to a woman in her 30s at her home in Cloghers Drive, Tralee on Friday night.

Det Sgt Fearghal Patwell gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. He said the accused had been arrested on Saturday morning and had been charged on Saturday night. Gardaí objected to bail because of the seriousness of the charge, the likelihood of further offences, and the possibility of more serious charges arising.

Judge Leo Malone remanded the accused in custody to Cork prison to appear before Tralee District Court next Thursday.
