A man is to appear in a Kilmarnock court over the death of a four-year-old boy who disappeared from his home.
Luke Gargan was reported missing after his mother found his bed empty at about 7.20 a.m. yesterday. She had last seen him less than three hours earlier.
His body was found in the Lochwinnoch area at around midnight last night.
A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "The found child has not been formally identified but Luke's mother and other relatives have been informed.
"A 35-year-old man is in custody regarding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
The man will appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff's Court tomorrow.
A massive police search was launched after Luke disappeared from his home in Saltcoats, Ayrshire.
About 25 officers, backed up by a helicopter and search dogs, spent the day scouring gardens and woodland around his home while police divers searched nearby ponds.
