A man arrested after a disturbance in Tallaght early yesterday died later in hospital.
Mr Tony Stokes was arrested after gardai were called to a disturbance at Cushlawn Park. The Garda said the initial complaint was of windows being broken, and when officers investigated they encountered Mr Stokes. He complained of chest pains and the gardai called an ambulance, but when it arrived he refused to get into it.
Mr Stokes then produced a knife, but was disarmed, arrested and taken to Tallaght Garda station. Later he complained again of chest pains, and an ambulance was called to the station. The ambulance crew arrived shortly afterwards and examined Mr Stokes, who was lying down and not moving. He was taken to St James's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6.15 a.m., the Garda said.
A post-mortem was to be held yesterday evening.
