A 20-year-old man is recovering in hospital in Cork today after being beaten with a hammer and stabbed in the city last night.
A garda investigation has been launched following the serious assault which took place in the Mardyke area of the city at around 10pm.
The man, from Togher, was struck on the head with a hammer and was stabbed in the arm after he was attacked by five men who got out of a grey van and approached him.
Gardaí arrived on the scene and spoke to a number of men believed to have been involved in the incident but no arrests were made
The man is being treated in Cork University Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The same man was attacked by a group of men in the city on Tuesday and suffered injuries to his face and legs after being beaten with an iron bar, a hammer and a hurley.
