A 33-year-old man appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday charged in connection with a sword attack in a north Dublin pub last Sunday night during which another man had his hand cut off.
Anthony Dowling, of Fortlawn Drive in Blanchardstown, was charged with assault causing harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was granted bail, subject to a number of conditions, and is due to reappear before the court in one week's time.
Det Tony Gleeson, of Finglas Garda station, told the court Mr Dowling was arrested at 9.35pm on Sunday at Barnamore Park in Finglas.
He was subsequently charged on two counts relating to assault causing harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
The charges relate to an assault in the Deputy Mayor pub in Finglas on Sunday evening in which a 27-year-old man from Ballymun had his hand severed in a sword attack.
Mr Dowling, who was dressed in a striped jumper and grey tracksuit bottoms, made no comment during his appearance in court.
Judge Bryan Smyth remanded Mr Dowling in custody with consent to bail.
However, the judge imposed a number of bail conditions.
These included a requirement that Mr Dowling sign on once a week at Finglas Garda station and provide his own cash bond of €1,000.
Judge Smyth also agreed to grant bail if an independent surety of €8,000 was provided, or €5,000 cash in lieu of this amount.
He also directed that Mr Dowling have no direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim.
Mr Dowling was remanded to reappear before the court next Tuesday.
