A man appeared in court yesterday charged with murdering a well known Cork city taxi driver.

Michael Healy (62) was found dead in his one-bed flat on Rocksprings Terrace, St Luke's, on the northside of the city, on Wednesday.

At a special sitting of Cork District Court today, Lloyd Buckley (37), also from Rocksprings Terrace, was charged with murdering the separated father-of-two at some point between September 18th and 22nd.

He was remanded in custody.

Mr Healy, who died from head trauma, was last seen alive some time around last Friday in Cork city centre.

A postmortem revealed that Mr Healy died from a blunt force trauma head injury and he was found lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his top floor flat.

A native of Grenagh in North Cork, Mr Healy was a separated father of two adult children who had lived for a period at Lagan Grove in Mayfield but for the past ten years or so since his separation, he had lived at the upstairs flat at Rocksprings Tce at St Luke's Cross.
