A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court charged in connection with the death of Gary Butcher (39) in Magilligan early on Saturday morning.
Seán William Doherty (19), Limestone Road, Limavady, was yesterday charged with the unlawful killing of Mr Butcher.
The court heard that there was a dispute between both men’s families over land development and that tensions had increased over the last six months.
Describing the incident as “sad and tragic”, Judge Barney McElholm released Mr Doherty on his own bail of £5,000 with two sureties of £1,000 each. He is not to enter the Magilligan area and has to observe a curfew.
