A 39-year old man was charged in Dublin District Court this morning with an offence related to the death of a homeless man in the city over the weekend.

Mr Joseph Francis McWeeney was arrested yesterday in Dublin and charged with assault under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act in connection with the death of a 52-year-old man whose body was found in the basement of a building site in Benburb Street.

The dead man was named this morning as Mr Joseph Fitzgerald, originally from Ballyfermot in Dublin. He died from head injuries.

Mr McWeeney has been remanded in custody for a week.
