A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody with consent to bail after being charged yesterday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old man in Cork city at the weekend.

Tim Kelleher was brought before Cork District Court yesterday morning and charged in connection with a fatal assault on father of one Mark Hanlon, who died at Cork University Hospital at about 4am on Sunday morning. Mr Kelleher, originally from the Douglas area of Cork city, was charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Hanlon at Infirmary Road, Cork, on May 6th.

Insp Finbarr O’Sullivan said gardaí were not objecting to bail as long as certain conditions were met by Mr Kelleher, including that he would reside at his current address in Block A, South Terrace apartments. Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr Kelleher in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of €200 and independent surety of €5,000 to be approved by the court. He ordered him to appear again at Cork District Court tomorrow.
