A Dublin man charged in relation to the death of soldier and part-time security man Mr Hugh O'Brien was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Ardee District Court yesterday.

Mr O'Brien (39), from John Paul Avenue, Cavan, was a father of four. He was pronounced dead after being knocked down as he worked at the Carrick Springs Hotel nightclub, Crosskeys, Co Cavan, early on Sunday morning.

Members of Mr O'Brien's family were in court to hear evidence of the arrest and charging of Mr Michael Cavanagh (38), with an address at Fortlawn Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

Garda Sgt Philip Fyfe told the court he arrested Mr Cavanagh at 6.31 a.m. on February 25th. He brought him to Cavan Garda station and charged him under Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
