A man was remanded in custody at Ballybay District Court in Co Monaghan yesterday after it was alleged he imprisoned his partner and their three-month-old child in a car, and threatened to kill the woman by drowning in a nearby river.
David Linden, with an address at Ballybay, was remanded in custody to a sitting of Carrickmacross District Court, Co Monaghan, on Monday after being charged with assault.
The accused denied in court that he had caught the woman by the throat and dragged her outside to a car with one hand as he held the child, who was screaming at the time, with his other arm.
Garda Supt Tom Long, Carrickmacross, told the judge the woman had claimed in her statement to gardaí that the accused threatened to break her toes, and said he would "kill" her as he held her in a car after dragging her from the house.
Mr Linden denied in court that he threatened to "kill" his partner, but admitted words were exchanged between them in a row.
