A 30-year-old man is due in court today charged with attempted murder in Derry city last weekend.
The charges relate to an attack on a 20-year-old man in the Rosemount area of the city early on Sunday morning. He was bludgeoned with a blunt instrument, believed to be a wheel brace.
The victim is in a critical condition on a life support machine in Altnagelvin Hospital in the city.
The PSNI said he tried to stop a fight which broke out when young people returned to the city after a night out in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

A woman who was also arrested has been released pending a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
